The box office saw a nice bump from the previous week despite there being no new movies (in wide release) released in theatres this past weekend. Plenty of discussion on this week’s podcast about the state of the movie industry, some movie recommendations and reviews, and a recap of what’s your options are in theatres and on DVD this coming week.

No, this is not a dream. This is a podcast on this site that has actually gone up on time. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. There has been several podcasts (and a newsletter) to be published on the site over the last week and it should get busier on the site once we get into the new year. This podcast was slightly longer than I expected because I went into quite a bit of detail over the numbers from last weekend and try to explain why they were so poor considering that the holiday weekend traditionally is very busy for the theatres.

  • Podcast delivered despite being pretty awfully sick all week
  • I don’t hate Nintendo but for this podcast, I really hate Nintendo
  • Seriously Nintendo, make with the games on the Virtual Console…and bring back IPs like Pikmin, WarioWare, Advance Wars, and Kid Icarus (no, that Sin and Punishment knockoff doesn’t count)
  • Speaking of downloadable games and hate, I really tear Sony a new one; do they not want me to use my PSP anymore?
  • Microsoft got off easy…lucky them

The podcast is much shorter than normal (and late). I was really sick this past week (I’m still feeling slightly better than miserable). I had originally recorded almost 40 minutes but much of it was nonsensical rambling, coughing, and blowing my nose. I was able to piece together the normal segments of the show (box-office figures and movie releases). I wanted to make sure that I published this podcast in some form so even though it’s small, it’s still pretty good all things considering.

  • First podcast in a long time. Let’s hope this starts to be a regular thing again instead of a special edition.
  • Sales are up big time due to the holiday season
  • How is the PlayStation 3 sitting atop worldwide sales for 2011? John and I talk about Sony’s 2011 in this week’s podcast
  • It’s about time people bought the 3DS. It only took a Zelda game and two Mario titles to make people want to buy the machine.

NOTE: I’m aware of the audio issues of the podcast. My audio software is giving me problems with the MP3 files (the WAV format sounds just fine). I’ve uploaded a version that runs at 96 kbps which makes it sound like there’s less static. The other issues like the volume leveling should be fixed before the next podcast.
