Since there are only a few races to talk about this weekend, I spend the majority of the podcast talking about my training and the importance of not trying to catch up on missed runs when you need some extra recovery. Runners like to think they’re invincible and that the an injury is a insignificant glitch that can easily be shaken off. However, sometimes it’s not and you need to take care of your body before you run it into the ground.
It’s very frustrating to sit through an awards show and basically be told that the show is probably rigged. It became a running gag during the 73rd Golden Globes that not everything was on the up-and-up which made what began as an entertaining evening (Ricky Gervais was very funny) into a tedious chore of watching station ads, trailers for the nominated movies, and award winners that seem more cherry picked than earned. So I apologize if the post-Golden Globes podcast sounds a bit on the angry side but it after a week of watching on average two movies a week to get caught up on all the nominees, it felt kind of pointless in the end.
I apologize if there were some audio issues with the podcast. I was trying a slightly different setup and I have a bit of a sore throat. I know the sound quality isn’t awful but I’m a bit of a stickler for audio so the fact that the sound fidelity may only be 9 out of 10 still bothers me.
The 72nd Golden Globes was here and now gone. The big winners are Boyhood, Birdman, and The Theory of Everything. The big losers were the people (including me) who had to sit through that insufferable telecast. It was really bad and it was truly three hours of my life wasted. If you didn’t watch the show, you can download my recap of the broadcast where I not only discuss the winners and talk about the high and low moments of the show but I offer up some analysis as well as where we are heading as the Oscar nominations are coming out this Thursday.
There will be the usual Weekly Movie Podcast on Tuesday as well as a podcast talking about the Oscar nominations on Thursday.
It’s finally up (it took four attempts to record)! I’ve given the predictions I could for this evening’s Golden Globes. I will be live-blogging the event on the site starting at 8PM and recording a wrap-up podcast later tonight after the show.
Just a note about the podcast…I’m only talking about movies on the podcast. I will be live-blogging the entire event but for the prediction show, I only went over the film categories.
On this week’s podcast, I briefly discuss the potential impact The Interview may have on how we will watch new movies. I will have an article on the site later today that goes into greater detail. Also on the podcast are the box office numbers from the holiday weekend and the new releases coming out in theatres and on video.
Continue reading for the top five charts from the last week’s box office (all data coming from www.the-numbers.com). There’s also a list of all the movies coming out this weekend in theatres and the movies that were released for the home video market this week (with trailers where available).
Not much to talk about when it comes to running other than the upcoming season. There are a bunch of “Resolution Runs” put on by the Running Room as well as some other New Year’s-themed races in and around the area. I also say some things about winter training that might be helpful to some.
