It’s the end of the year of an old year and a beginning of a new one. After getting together with a bunch of gamers (both hardcore and casual), here’s our list for the “Top 10” games of 2009. The list is only in alphabetical order so don’t get feisty because Assassin’s Creed 2 is at the top and Uncharted 2 is at the bottom. The qualifications for a title to be part of this list was that it had to have had sales of at least 250 000 units in the Americas on at least one single system (according to sales website http://vgchartz.com) through Dec. 19, 2008. The reasoning for titles to be excluded under 250k in sales is that even that critics might love a game but if a game isn’t well received by the mass market, then it’s hard to call it a top game (which hurt a lot of Wii games since there were several people who voted for this list who wanted to vote for games like Silent Hill: Scattered Memories and Madworld). This list is about the Top 10 games that everyone enjoyed, not just the critics.

Video Game Review New Super Mario Bros. Wii Nintendo Wii 2009 Developer: Nintendo EAD Publisher: Nintendo
There was a time when a new 2D Mario game would have generated an unprecedented amount of buzz and excitement. However, when Nintendo announced that their latest adventure starring the plumber would be nearly identical to the DS game that had released two years prior, people became skeptical. Many wondered why such a simple adventure was being given a full Wii retail release instead of being put on WiiWare or released as a DS game instead. When it comes down to it, Nintendo did it this way to make the most money. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is still a fun game even if reeks of being a cash-in title, although more gimmicky.
First off, I’d like to thank my cat for allowing me enough time to edit and type this up…really nice of the furball to give me a couple of minutes peace for a while
We’re looking at the video game sales the week before Modern Warfare 2. It’s a bit of a lame duck week but considering the piss-poor sales of Band Hero and Lego Rock Band, it’s interesting nonetheless.
We also mull through the video game releases of this week which is bigger in the number of quality big name titles but is still dwarfed by Modern Warfare 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
– Jamie Gore and Chris Karpyszyn. – Us two and thirty Helens agree that Mario will outsell Modern Warfare 2 this year. – We take a look at the Halloween week sales. – If you were not aware already, this is the biggest week in video games this year and we summarize it in fifteen minutes. – All sales data is from http://www.vgchartz.com
